Lens is a mature, capable product with an extensions ecosystem Kubeterm doesn't try to match. If you rely on specific Lens extensions or your team already runs it, that's a real reason to stay.
Kubeterm is worth a look if the licence change pushed you to reconsider, or if you want a desktop client that's free, requires no account, includes an AI assistant, and has a mobile app for when you're away from your desk.
Why people look for a Lens alternative
The most common reasons we hear are the commercial licence and the requirement to sign in to use the app. Community forks such as OpenLens and FreeLens exist because of this, and they're reasonable options too — FreeLens in particular is actively maintained and keeps the familiar Lens experience.

- A real mobile app. The same workflows on iOS and Android for when something breaks and you're not at your laptop. Lens has no mobile client.
- Lightweight. Kubeterm is a compiled app rather than an Electron shell, which shows in memory use and start-up time.

Stay with Lens (or move to FreeLens) if you depend on extensions or your team is already productive in it.
